"Endurance and the Chastening of the Lord" Rescue Radio with Marjorie Cole

Deciding to follow God and stay the course requires endurance. Endure means to “suffer something painful or difficult, patiently.” The Bible's definition is “to bear up under hardship, to withstand adversity or persecution.”

The most powerful picture of endurance is recorded in Hebrews 12:1-3. “Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the Joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Hebrews then leads us into a discussion about “not despising the chastening of the LORD.” To chasten means to correct. So many times, we are offended by correction, finding fault with the one who brings it.

Correction is part of our perfection. It is part of what God is using to perfect that which concerns us (Ps. 138:8),  but if we resist it or take it personally, we will miss the benefit of the chastening.

Join us in taking a deeper look at God’s purposes and in the way He perfects us.
