"Endurance and the Chastening of the Lord" Rescue Radio with Marjorie Cole

Deciding to follow God and stay the course requires endurance. Endure means to “suffer something painful or difficult, patiently.” The Bible's definition is “to bear up under hardship, to withstand adversity or persecution.”

The most powerful picture of endurance is recorded in Hebrews 12:1-3. “Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the Joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Hebrews then leads us into a discussion about “not despising the chastening of the LORD.” To chasten means to correct. So many times, we are offended by correction, finding fault with the one who brings it.

Correction is part of our perfection. It is part of what God is using to perfect that which concerns us (Ps. 138:8),  but if we resist it or take it personally, we will miss the benefit of the chastening.

Join us in taking a deeper look at God’s purposes and in the way He perfects us.

Music.

00:00:25.186 --> 00:00:28.466
Rescue Radio, because there's a war for your soul.

00:00:28.986 --> 00:00:34.786
Yes, the war. The war goes on and continues, and even in every level of our existence.

00:00:34.986 --> 00:00:38.786
So, Father God, we pray for divine peace, protection, revelation,

00:00:38.786 --> 00:00:45.566
pulling us back from the grip and the edge of the cliff into the place of abiding in you, Lord God.

00:00:45.726 --> 00:00:48.546
We thank you that your will be done, O God, on earth and in and through us.

00:00:48.546 --> 00:00:50.686
As it's being done and declared in heaven.

00:00:50.946 --> 00:00:55.966
Teach us how to abide, teach us to endure, teach us to realize and believe and

00:00:55.966 --> 00:00:58.786
continue to believe that you are with us, you're for us,

00:00:58.886 --> 00:01:03.206
not against us, and that in all things, all things work together for good to

00:01:03.206 --> 00:01:06.386
those who love God and are called according to his purposes, Father God.

00:01:06.466 --> 00:01:09.706
And we thank you for Jesus Christ who endured the shame of the cross.

00:01:10.246 --> 00:01:12.266
Despising that shame, even that

00:01:12.266 --> 00:01:16.006
he might bring us to salvation and for the joy that was set before him.

00:01:16.246 --> 00:01:21.186
I pray, Father God, that you continue to give us great, that we would treasure our salvation,

00:01:21.346 --> 00:01:25.066
that we would treasure our lives, that we would look into a place where we can

00:01:25.066 --> 00:01:30.046
refine or explore those precious gifts that you've given us,

00:01:30.086 --> 00:01:33.666
and that we would come into a new place of fruitfulness in your kingdom.

00:01:33.846 --> 00:01:37.226
We bind the powers of darkness, witchcraft, charms, enchantments,

00:01:37.626 --> 00:01:41.406
sorcery, all kinds of things that the enemy has put on the heads and over and

00:01:41.406 --> 00:01:44.166
veils over the eyes of the people of the nations and the people individually.

00:01:44.486 --> 00:01:48.166
We come against those spirits of enchantment. We come against those deceivers.

00:01:48.286 --> 00:01:49.286
We come against the divination.

00:01:49.426 --> 00:01:52.666
We come against the powers of darkness with the blood of the Lamb of God and

00:01:52.666 --> 00:01:53.586
the Word of Jesus Christ.

00:01:53.686 --> 00:01:57.046
And we ask now for divine favor, blessing, protection, and Father,

00:01:57.246 --> 00:02:02.466
even promotion, that the things, the Word of God would be promoted in the midst

00:02:02.466 --> 00:02:04.666
of the earth, Father, in Jesus' name. Amen.

00:02:05.503 --> 00:02:08.623
Amen. Well, today we're going to be talking about, of course,

00:02:08.763 --> 00:02:11.043
endurance and the chastening of the Lord.

00:02:11.143 --> 00:02:14.723
This is a complicated subject because a lot of people don't,

00:02:14.723 --> 00:02:18.683
at first, at face value, if they don't really understand what's really at the

00:02:18.683 --> 00:02:21.223
root of or why we go through all these hard things.

00:02:21.943 --> 00:02:26.823
You know, when all is said and done in doing life, one of the most foundational

00:02:26.823 --> 00:02:34.863
things, the most important and critical things, is to decide who do you believe.

00:02:35.343 --> 00:02:38.963
What do you think and feel and have to believe?

00:02:39.303 --> 00:02:43.863
Do you believe what the God of this world is saying and teaching you and has

00:02:43.863 --> 00:02:46.323
kind of programmed and brainwashed us to believe?

00:02:46.623 --> 00:02:50.343
Or what the Lord God says, the God of the universe, the one who created us,

00:02:50.463 --> 00:02:52.943
the one who has revealed himself to us.

00:02:53.803 --> 00:02:58.283
When all is said and done, really, it becomes a matter of whose report do we believe?

00:02:58.523 --> 00:03:02.103
And with all that, many people are troubled, their minds are troubled,

00:03:02.283 --> 00:03:05.703
because they cannot figure out what life is all about.

00:03:05.823 --> 00:03:10.283
Because life is full of confusion, complications, it's layers,

00:03:10.503 --> 00:03:15.423
it's deceptions, it's games, it's all kinds of things, clever strategies that

00:03:15.423 --> 00:03:18.523
the enemy has used to entangle us, ensnare us,

00:03:19.123 --> 00:03:25.543
entice us, to cause us to actually waste the precious life that God has given us.

00:03:25.643 --> 00:03:29.823
With all of that, making decisions on how to follow God and stay the course,

00:03:30.023 --> 00:03:36.223
actually require a lot of endurance, determination to follow Him no matter what.

00:03:36.403 --> 00:03:41.803
Yeah, endurance. There was a famous NFL football coach named Bud Grant,

00:03:41.803 --> 00:03:46.803
coach of the Minnesota Vikings, and he said, the greatest ability is durability.

00:03:47.643 --> 00:03:51.323
And that's really true, what you're talking about, Marjorie,

00:03:51.443 --> 00:03:54.943
as far as endurance, and endurance is really.

00:03:56.177 --> 00:04:00.617
The critical factor, the critical factor, to keep going.

00:04:00.857 --> 00:04:06.417
And basically, endurance can be defined as to harden, to hold out.

00:04:06.877 --> 00:04:10.877
That doesn't mean harden our hearts, but just to keep going, to toughen up, right?

00:04:11.097 --> 00:04:14.697
Yeah. And keep going, to hold out, to last, to continue to stand,

00:04:14.997 --> 00:04:17.737
to bear pain without flinching.

00:04:17.917 --> 00:04:24.877
The ability to stand against distress, pain, and fatigue, and to keep, just to keep going.

00:04:25.757 --> 00:04:29.217
Keep going to perseverance. But you know, the thing about perseverance,

00:04:29.377 --> 00:04:36.377
and I agree with you, enduring means, again, to suffer something painful or difficult patiently.

00:04:36.617 --> 00:04:40.417
The Bible says to bear up under hardship. Endure with patience.

00:04:40.677 --> 00:04:44.557
Yeah, to withstand hardship, adversity, and persecution.

00:04:44.897 --> 00:04:49.897
But the thing is, if you're enduring something for the wrong reasons, it's a waste.

00:04:50.517 --> 00:04:54.437
You know, like, for example, there's, you know, you can be faithful and endure.

00:04:55.037 --> 00:04:59.397
If you're a hen trying to hatch some eggs and you can endure,

00:04:59.717 --> 00:05:02.957
you know, with hardship, you go without food. You sit there for 28 days or how

00:05:02.957 --> 00:05:04.257
many days it is, I don't remember.

00:05:04.457 --> 00:05:07.997
But if you're not sitting on eggs, you're sitting on doorknobs instead,

00:05:08.417 --> 00:05:11.317
trying to hatch doorknobs, you're enduring for the wrong reason.

00:05:11.537 --> 00:05:16.077
So, not that we're going to go there exactly, but to endure means with Christ

00:05:16.077 --> 00:05:21.557
and going through the Word of God. we look at Hebrews 12, where Jesus is enduring

00:05:21.557 --> 00:05:23.857
the suffering of the cross.

00:05:24.077 --> 00:05:29.017
Can you start with 12.1 and then go through 3? Yeah, Hebrews 1 through verse 3.

00:05:30.089 --> 00:05:34.429
Therefore, we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses,

00:05:35.029 --> 00:05:39.369
let us lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily ensnares us,

00:05:39.409 --> 00:05:40.949
and let us run with endurance.

00:05:41.269 --> 00:05:46.909
King James Version says patience, endurance, the race that is set before us,

00:05:47.129 --> 00:05:50.849
looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.

00:05:51.369 --> 00:05:55.549
One translation says the pioneer and the perfecter of our faith,

00:05:55.609 --> 00:06:02.129
who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame,

00:06:02.389 --> 00:06:05.729
and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

00:06:05.869 --> 00:06:11.629
For consider him who endured such hostility from sinners against himself,

00:06:11.869 --> 00:06:15.529
lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls.

00:06:16.169 --> 00:06:20.829
Yes, it's amazing. If we think about endurance suffering patiently.

00:06:21.549 --> 00:06:25.509
Jesus' pain, the physical, biological pain in his body at that time,

00:06:25.669 --> 00:06:32.029
was not the main thing, I think, that he was having to endure because he had to endure the grief,

00:06:32.529 --> 00:06:37.129
the sorrow of seeing when he came here in the beginning to see the rejection,

00:06:37.749 --> 00:06:41.789
the rebellion, the resistance, the degradation, the idolatry,

00:06:41.969 --> 00:06:47.789
the religious perversions of his father's word that had taken over the human race.

00:06:47.789 --> 00:06:52.489
Even when, you know, in Matthew 23, when it talks about he wept over Jerusalem,

00:06:52.749 --> 00:06:56.489
you know, all of the things, and this was just right before the crucifixion.

00:06:56.569 --> 00:06:59.209
So he's got all these things, on his mind.

00:06:59.549 --> 00:07:04.129
And, you know, the thing is, enduring means there's something very difficult

00:07:04.129 --> 00:07:05.389
that you're going through.

00:07:05.849 --> 00:07:10.149
And we see, obviously, he endured it. He despised the shame.

00:07:10.229 --> 00:07:13.229
In other words, he wasn't even worried about what it looked like.

00:07:13.349 --> 00:07:15.549
That wasn't despising the shame.

00:07:15.729 --> 00:07:20.089
He endured the sufferings because that was the most important thing.

00:07:20.349 --> 00:07:26.709
Yeah. And endurance, you know, in sports, almost any sport, you need,

00:07:26.789 --> 00:07:30.309
especially sports that have a lot of physical movement.

00:07:31.043 --> 00:07:35.543
You have to develop endurance. There's physical conditioning,

00:07:35.543 --> 00:07:41.803
and it gets to be some painful things, some— In the weight room, stuff like that, yeah.

00:07:41.803 --> 00:07:47.203
In the weight room, running, whatever, different exercises. Going beyond what's comfortable.

00:07:47.383 --> 00:07:51.503
To build up endurance so when you're actually in the game, you're not going

00:07:51.503 --> 00:07:53.543
to just wear out and fizzle out.

00:07:53.743 --> 00:07:57.243
Well, I believe that Jesus was physically fit when he went to the cross,

00:07:57.303 --> 00:07:58.543
but I don't think that was the thing.

00:07:58.543 --> 00:08:01.963
You know he says he despised the shame that

00:08:01.963 --> 00:08:05.343
word means take no thought for or minimize or

00:08:05.343 --> 00:08:08.603
make it of a little it's little the shame

00:08:08.603 --> 00:08:11.583
was a little thing it wasn't you know shame means

00:08:11.583 --> 00:08:16.743
i am bad i am bad because guilt says i did something bad but jesus was not bad

00:08:16.743 --> 00:08:23.003
he knew the shame was not for him or him but he he looked to everyone who was

00:08:23.003 --> 00:08:29.483
watching him very very ashamed i mean And stripped and beaten and mocked. Right.

00:08:30.343 --> 00:08:36.463
I mean, hanging naked, just like a torn up piece of meat on the cross,

00:08:36.643 --> 00:08:40.823
in all due respect. But this is who he was.

00:08:40.923 --> 00:08:44.423
But what he was doing is he was doing it for us.

00:08:44.623 --> 00:08:46.963
He was bearing all our sin.

00:08:47.283 --> 00:08:55.183
And basically the wrath of God against sin that is ours was placed upon him.

00:08:55.183 --> 00:08:58.443
Yeah, in the Old Testament, they had sin offerings, they had burnt offerings,

00:08:58.503 --> 00:08:59.683
and they had all kinds of offerings.

00:08:59.783 --> 00:09:03.563
But Jesus became the offering for sin, the trespass offering, all of it.

00:09:03.703 --> 00:09:09.103
And yet, we see that he's using this, the writer of Hebrews is using this to

00:09:09.103 --> 00:09:18.163
explain to us that we should not grow weary or, you know, weak or despise the chastening of the Lord.

00:09:18.163 --> 00:09:22.423
He says, my son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, nor be discouraged

00:09:22.423 --> 00:09:23.643
when you are rebuked by him.

00:09:23.683 --> 00:09:26.443
In other words, don't become overwhelmed.

00:09:26.603 --> 00:09:29.483
Don't make it a big thing. Don't get offended.

00:09:29.723 --> 00:09:33.883
Don't get bitter. I think chastening, you know, the temptation when someone

00:09:33.883 --> 00:09:38.463
is being corrected or chastened or trained up is to become bitter.

00:09:38.903 --> 00:09:43.163
But you notice the athlete does not become bitter when he's going through the

00:09:43.163 --> 00:09:47.143
hard things to endure, learn and temper his body to endure. He shouldn't.

00:09:47.883 --> 00:09:50.723
The student doesn't become bitter against the teacher.

00:09:50.963 --> 00:09:55.743
The inductee doesn't become bitter against the drill sergeant because they are

00:09:55.743 --> 00:10:01.743
really willing there to submit to the challenges, to learn, to be tempered, strengthened,

00:10:01.943 --> 00:10:06.663
so that they will prevail in the task that they've set themselves to.

00:10:06.703 --> 00:10:10.223
And the coach or the drill sergeant, they're not the enemy of the person.

00:10:10.842 --> 00:10:15.842
They're the ones that are preparing them. They're the ones that are helping

00:10:15.842 --> 00:10:21.402
them develop endurance because they want them to succeed in what they're doing.

00:10:21.562 --> 00:10:24.042
And the only way you can do it is through hardship.

00:10:24.262 --> 00:10:26.322
And chastening. Chastening. Correction.

00:10:26.642 --> 00:10:33.582
And sometimes people don't want to take correction because you think a correction

00:10:33.582 --> 00:10:39.882
that's given is an assault against you personally, which is not an assault.

00:10:40.382 --> 00:10:46.382
It's correction from the Lord. It's done in love because you're seeing that

00:10:46.382 --> 00:10:50.782
this is going to harm you later on.

00:10:52.102 --> 00:10:57.262
You need to know about this. You need to do it this way instead of this way.

00:10:57.562 --> 00:11:02.262
And so that correction is part of developing endurance.

00:11:03.062 --> 00:11:06.862
And character. And, you know, with that too, with correction, you said from the Lord.

00:11:06.862 --> 00:11:10.042
Yeah, we can all take correction from the Lord and it's okay.

00:11:10.042 --> 00:11:14.322
But when God uses someone else to correct us, like maybe a donkey,

00:11:14.362 --> 00:11:18.962
for example, in the Old Testament, or he uses a person who's not perfect themselves

00:11:18.962 --> 00:11:22.782
to draw something to our attention, to correct us,

00:11:23.162 --> 00:11:29.782
we then get offended rather than realizing that even though the correction is

00:11:29.782 --> 00:11:33.882
coming from a negative source or someone who doesn't love us or someone who's

00:11:33.882 --> 00:11:36.442
jealous of us or whatever it is,

00:11:36.842 --> 00:11:39.942
that the chastening, the difficult thing that you're going through,

00:11:40.082 --> 00:11:42.082
whatever it is, whether it's financial, emotional.

00:11:43.262 --> 00:11:45.482
Relational, physical, it is all,

00:11:45.987 --> 00:11:51.387
The original originator of that chastening or the permitting that chastening

00:11:51.387 --> 00:11:52.847
to come to you is the Lord.

00:11:53.067 --> 00:12:00.887
And whether it comes to a system or a person that you can find fault with doesn't matter.

00:12:01.687 --> 00:12:05.707
Jesus could have found fault with everybody who was correcting him that day,

00:12:05.907 --> 00:12:09.387
correcting his religious beliefs because he wasn't traditionally touting the

00:12:09.387 --> 00:12:10.927
traditions of the elders.

00:12:10.927 --> 00:12:14.967
He could have, but he didn't despise it because he knew that the Father was

00:12:14.967 --> 00:12:18.687
permitting it because the Father was perfecting him and also setting before

00:12:18.687 --> 00:12:22.887
him joy, eternal joy and a position at the right hand of the Father.

00:12:23.087 --> 00:12:27.567
So, again, looking at that word chasing and how it comes to us,

00:12:27.767 --> 00:12:31.107
we can always find fault with how the corrections are coming.

00:12:31.287 --> 00:12:37.207
So we fail, we wimp out, we melt away when it comes to enduring because we are

00:12:37.207 --> 00:12:39.407
offended. at me because why is this happening to me?

00:12:39.507 --> 00:12:42.747
How dare you say this to me? Because look at who you are.

00:12:43.227 --> 00:12:46.607
Or, you know, again, just that defensiveness, that being offended,

00:12:46.767 --> 00:12:51.847
defensive, all those things are maybe exactly what God is causing this chastening

00:12:51.847 --> 00:12:54.527
and endurance to root out of us.

00:12:55.567 --> 00:12:59.547
And you think of back in the day when you were in school, maybe you are in school

00:12:59.547 --> 00:13:04.387
now, but the people you really learn from are not the people that the teachers

00:13:04.387 --> 00:13:06.227
are just going to let you get by with everything,

00:13:06.367 --> 00:13:10.847
but the ones that are tough on you, and sometimes they think they might be really

00:13:10.847 --> 00:13:13.527
mean, and there are some teachers that are just plain mean,

00:13:13.767 --> 00:13:19.847
but those that are strong and strict and demand and want you to get better,

00:13:20.047 --> 00:13:23.607
those are, I think of that, teachers that I had back in school,

00:13:23.727 --> 00:13:25.467
even elementary school and high school,

00:13:25.847 --> 00:13:28.027
the ones that were the toughest,

00:13:28.667 --> 00:13:32.107
they cared about us, they wanted to develop us. Make sure you learn something.

00:13:32.267 --> 00:13:37.247
And you learn from those and not from the ones that let you get by with everything.

00:13:37.467 --> 00:13:41.727
Well, yeah, and the word chastening in itself means correction.

00:13:42.047 --> 00:13:45.527
And I think no one really likes to be corrected.

00:13:46.287 --> 00:13:51.607
And chastening, Jesus was, he was enduring.

00:13:52.227 --> 00:13:55.487
He didn't need to be corrected. No, he didn't. There was no sin in him,

00:13:55.607 --> 00:14:02.147
but he was enduring the pain of all of our sin and our rebellion against God.

00:14:02.307 --> 00:14:10.187
So when God chastens us, he wants to bring us to the place of training, endurance,

00:14:11.257 --> 00:14:14.737
The truth, walking in the power and strength of the truth.

00:14:14.917 --> 00:14:18.497
When Jesus told the parable of the sower and the soils, he said there's some

00:14:18.497 --> 00:14:22.637
that, some when they hear the word, like in Mark 4, 16.

00:14:23.497 --> 00:14:29.997
He said, the ones sown on stony ground, they hear the word and immediately receive it with gladness.

00:14:30.117 --> 00:14:32.977
They think, oh, this is good. Yeah, praise God, I got this.

00:14:33.657 --> 00:14:37.937
But then verse 17 says, and they have no root in themselves,

00:14:38.637 --> 00:14:41.257
and so endure only for a time.

00:14:42.037 --> 00:14:45.817
Afterward, when tribulation or persecution arises for the word's sake,

00:14:45.997 --> 00:14:47.957
immediately they stumble.

00:14:48.277 --> 00:14:51.037
Enduring, yeah. We've seen a lot of this in our day.

00:14:51.317 --> 00:14:54.457
People that start out fine and they don't endure for very long.

00:14:54.457 --> 00:14:56.897
Because there's no trouble in the beginning. There's no death.

00:14:57.257 --> 00:15:01.677
There's no depth of, what is it, talk about? To persevere. Depth of earth, right?

00:15:01.837 --> 00:15:05.857
And they just keep, for a little while, they have no root in themselves.

00:15:06.597 --> 00:15:11.317
And so without, they can't endure. Well, it means to be strong,

00:15:11.477 --> 00:15:17.957
to be firm on wavering, to persevere beneath a heavy or a difficult burden or something that's long.

00:15:18.297 --> 00:15:21.997
I think of Abraham who endured his faith.

00:15:22.097 --> 00:15:28.577
He did not waver in his faith, even though it was a very, very long time that God had promised him.

00:15:28.697 --> 00:15:31.837
It was 25 years. 25 years. And the promise still hadn't shown up.

00:15:32.077 --> 00:15:36.797
And I think some of us are in these kinds of, And that is a chastening in a

00:15:36.797 --> 00:15:40.917
way, but also what you do in that chastening is you determine,

00:15:41.057 --> 00:15:45.817
declare, decide that you're going to continue on no matter what it looks like

00:15:45.817 --> 00:15:46.937
and no matter how long it lasts.

00:15:46.937 --> 00:15:54.637
Because we have to know that in a trial, a tribulation, God is also in the midst

00:15:54.637 --> 00:15:55.777
of that trial, like with Job.

00:15:55.937 --> 00:16:00.777
God was in the midst of it to strengthen Job and cause him, give him grace to endure.

00:16:01.057 --> 00:16:04.657
Job was able to prevail. He didn't get bitter. He didn't, you know,

00:16:04.897 --> 00:16:09.837
succumb to the chastening of his friends who were, you know.

00:16:10.797 --> 00:16:14.657
Examining him and saying, what have you done that made God so mad at you?

00:16:15.297 --> 00:16:23.377
So an endurance is an ability to continue with your commitment to remain faithful

00:16:23.377 --> 00:16:25.857
to God despite what it looks like and feels like.

00:16:26.817 --> 00:16:33.737
And the seed that was sown in these stony places, there was no resistance.

00:16:34.237 --> 00:16:38.837
The seed was sown on top of the ground, basically. The seed did not have to

00:16:38.837 --> 00:16:42.237
break through an inch or two of soil to sprout.

00:16:42.717 --> 00:16:47.797
And it had no root because it had no resistance. And so if there's no resistance, there's no root.

00:16:47.897 --> 00:16:52.797
And so we have to realize that with God, we have to be rooted deep in the revelation

00:16:52.797 --> 00:16:58.157
of His love and truth. And so, for some of you, you're going through fiery trials, long trials.

00:16:58.377 --> 00:17:02.437
Some of you, they're shocking. Some are sudden. Sometimes their trials are so...

00:17:03.344 --> 00:17:08.144
They just spring up from nowhere. But we have to realize in all of this,

00:17:08.204 --> 00:17:15.684
in every tribulation, in every trial, God is faithful to keep us and to complete his work in us.

00:17:15.764 --> 00:17:18.484
And he is actually the one also walking.

00:17:18.644 --> 00:17:22.224
He is afflicted with us. This is when he was afflicted with the children of

00:17:22.224 --> 00:17:23.224
Israel when they were afflicted.

00:17:23.364 --> 00:17:27.144
He went with them in those afflictions. God also suffers.

00:17:27.344 --> 00:17:31.344
Don't you think that if you have a child and your child is suffering and you

00:17:31.344 --> 00:17:34.204
have to train them, maybe even discipline them or punish them or whatever,

00:17:34.364 --> 00:17:36.124
that you are not also suffering.

00:17:36.304 --> 00:17:39.844
Yes, you're suffering. And of course, you're suffering with them because you

00:17:39.844 --> 00:17:42.404
don't want to see them do something that will destroy them.

00:17:42.524 --> 00:17:49.184
And so we go through not only on both ends of the endurance and suffering to

00:17:49.184 --> 00:17:50.524
correct and be corrected.

00:17:50.984 --> 00:17:54.384
In Romans 5, beginning with verse 1, it says, Therefore,

00:17:54.664 --> 00:17:58.444
having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus

00:17:58.444 --> 00:18:04.244
Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we

00:18:04.244 --> 00:18:07.484
stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

00:18:07.604 --> 00:18:11.564
And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations.

00:18:11.784 --> 00:18:15.024
Wow. I mean, most of the time we just, we hate those things.

00:18:15.324 --> 00:18:17.404
They say, this is the piss. This is terrible.

00:18:17.784 --> 00:18:21.124
But he says, we glory in tribulations. Why?

00:18:21.944 --> 00:18:28.824
Why can we glory in trouble? because knowing that tribulation produces perseverance.

00:18:30.624 --> 00:18:36.384
Perseverance, character, and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint because

00:18:36.384 --> 00:18:39.784
the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

00:18:39.884 --> 00:18:46.344
So when you know what you're going through is building perseverance and character

00:18:46.344 --> 00:18:50.564
and hope, character is what you really are.

00:18:51.144 --> 00:18:56.804
It's basically developing the development of Christ-like qualities within you.

00:18:56.984 --> 00:18:58.644
We call it the fruit of the Spirit.

00:18:58.864 --> 00:19:05.584
I believe that Satan is testing our faith. He is despising us and wanting to

00:19:05.584 --> 00:19:10.544
pull us away from God, call us to a place of failure and shame and humiliation.

00:19:11.024 --> 00:19:14.664
So endurance comes from using the grace of God.

00:19:14.844 --> 00:19:18.444
And one of the things that often happens, even when you look at Jesus,

00:19:18.604 --> 00:19:23.684
going back to Hebrews 12, verse 1, 2, and 3, that he endured the shame and the

00:19:23.684 --> 00:19:28.124
humiliation of the violent injustices of the cross.

00:19:28.484 --> 00:19:32.704
When it says he despised the shame, that means he made little of it,

00:19:33.084 --> 00:19:36.024
minimized it, did take no thought of it. He didn't take it personally.

00:19:36.344 --> 00:19:43.564
And I think that the humiliation was nothing compared to the joy that he knew he had in his heart.

00:19:43.664 --> 00:19:47.184
He knew God was faithful to bring forth that joy and that peace.

00:19:47.364 --> 00:19:52.464
But one of the reasons that chastening and endurance are, you know.

00:19:53.304 --> 00:20:00.244
A primary—difficult, I should say—they're difficult because many times the suffering

00:20:00.244 --> 00:20:01.504
is coming through an injustice.

00:20:02.183 --> 00:20:07.343
And someone's wronged you, robbed you, ripped you off, shamed you,

00:20:07.983 --> 00:20:12.223
stole your place, made you look stupid, betrayed you.

00:20:12.643 --> 00:20:16.823
So the injustice becomes a big part of the issue.

00:20:16.943 --> 00:20:21.523
Jesus could have sat on that cross, hung on that cross, and been just offended

00:20:21.523 --> 00:20:23.763
to the max, been so upset.

00:20:23.903 --> 00:20:29.083
I don't deserve that. Because everything about that cross was an injustice. Everything.

00:20:29.583 --> 00:20:34.223
How they treated you. Yet it was an injustice, yet, but justice was accomplished.

00:20:34.583 --> 00:20:37.723
Because Jesus forgave them. That was the critical piece.

00:20:37.863 --> 00:20:40.963
Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do. And I think many times

00:20:40.963 --> 00:20:42.863
this is exactly what needs to be said.

00:20:43.163 --> 00:20:45.923
Forgive them. I release them from my judgment.

00:20:46.403 --> 00:20:49.743
I forgive them because they have no clue about what they're doing.

00:20:49.823 --> 00:20:54.623
And that was the truth when they were mocking him and screaming at him to come

00:20:54.623 --> 00:20:58.443
down off the cross. So when you're in this place of being chastened.

00:20:59.203 --> 00:21:01.463
What is God really testing?

00:21:01.683 --> 00:21:06.803
What is he bringing forth? Our faith as pure gold. But what does that mean?

00:21:07.143 --> 00:21:14.243
That means that he is allowing what is real and solid and precious to come forth

00:21:14.243 --> 00:21:22.763
and what is dross and offense and defensiveness and bitterness and all that to be burned off.

00:21:22.763 --> 00:21:29.643
So, what's left is goodness and purity and holiness, and that your heart is

00:21:29.643 --> 00:21:34.643
right with God because it's a heart of integrity, so everything that's not,

00:21:35.150 --> 00:21:40.990
full of the goodness of God, is being purged out of us through the chasing.

00:21:41.170 --> 00:21:44.270
So in the chasing, you have to stay in the fire.

00:21:45.090 --> 00:21:48.510
That's the endurance part. You have to stay in the fire, stay on the altar.

00:21:49.030 --> 00:21:52.750
What is it, Romans 12, 1 and 2, present yourself a living sacrifice?

00:21:52.910 --> 00:21:56.550
Holy and acceptable to God. Yeah, don't jump off the altar in the middle of

00:21:56.550 --> 00:21:58.190
it and say, I can't do this. This is too much.

00:21:58.250 --> 00:22:01.790
I can't take this anymore. And a lot of times it's, the question is,

00:22:01.950 --> 00:22:04.390
is the length, how long, Lord?

00:22:04.610 --> 00:22:06.750
I want to read just from Psalm 13.

00:22:06.990 --> 00:22:09.470
He says, how long, O Lord, will you forget me forever?

00:22:10.090 --> 00:22:13.550
You know, how long will you hide your face from me?

00:22:13.650 --> 00:22:18.430
How long should I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart daily?

00:22:18.990 --> 00:22:22.170
How long will my enemy be exalted over me?

00:22:22.870 --> 00:22:27.610
Consider and hear me, O Lord, my God, enlighten my eyes, lest I sleep the sleep

00:22:27.610 --> 00:22:33.390
of death, lest my enemies say I have prevailed against him, lest those who trouble

00:22:33.390 --> 00:22:35.250
me rejoice when I am moved.

00:22:35.730 --> 00:22:40.410
But I have trusted in your mercy. My heart shall rejoice in your salvation.

00:22:40.410 --> 00:22:43.570
I will sing to the Lord because he has dealt bountifully with me.

00:22:43.810 --> 00:22:47.490
That's the question that we ask oftentimes. How long?

00:22:47.650 --> 00:22:51.270
I mean, it just seems like you're there. Have you forgotten about me?

00:22:51.510 --> 00:22:53.350
Have you hidden your face from me?

00:22:53.830 --> 00:22:57.190
I can't do this anymore. How long am I going to have this sorrow?

00:22:57.190 --> 00:23:00.430
How long shall my enemy be exalted over me?

00:23:00.530 --> 00:23:06.970
We see that it seems like the enemies are riding roughshod over us and riding

00:23:06.970 --> 00:23:08.390
roughshod over this world.

00:23:08.870 --> 00:23:14.750
But he comes to the place here. He says, I have trusted in your mercy.

00:23:14.870 --> 00:23:20.030
My heart shall rejoice in your salvation. So this is part of the endurance is

00:23:20.030 --> 00:23:23.390
just the weight where it just, you know.

00:23:23.490 --> 00:23:27.810
God gives us the grace and strength to do that. You know, we want everything just fast and quick.

00:23:28.030 --> 00:23:31.490
Take care of it now. Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, zip with our technology and

00:23:31.490 --> 00:23:33.470
stuff. Faster internet and everything.

00:23:34.070 --> 00:23:38.790
God is, he can be very fast, but he can be very slow, it seems to us.

00:23:38.910 --> 00:23:44.310
In Psalm 102, he talks about, but you, O Lord, shall endure forever and the

00:23:44.310 --> 00:23:46.050
remembrance of your name to all generations.

00:23:46.470 --> 00:23:50.530
And he goes on many places in that Psalm to talk about the endurance of the

00:23:50.530 --> 00:23:55.030
Lord to keep us. That's what his endurance is, to keep us, to be faithful,

00:23:55.150 --> 00:23:59.010
to keep us in the midst of these fiery trials, in the midst of this snake pit.

00:23:59.230 --> 00:24:04.290
That God is faithful because he loves us. And it says in verse 26 of Psalm 102, He says.

00:24:04.983 --> 00:24:09.583
They shall perish, but you will endure. Yes, all of them will grow old like

00:24:09.583 --> 00:24:11.203
a garment. He's talking about our enemies.

00:24:11.443 --> 00:24:14.323
Like a cloak, you will change them, and they will be changed.

00:24:14.463 --> 00:24:19.423
But you are the same, talking about God. And your years will have no end.

00:24:19.843 --> 00:24:24.663
The children of your servants will continue, and their descendants will be established before you.

00:24:24.743 --> 00:24:28.163
So all of the chastening and the endurance is for that one thing,

00:24:28.283 --> 00:24:32.663
to establish us before the Lord and our descendants. So ultimately,

00:24:32.943 --> 00:24:36.543
eternity is at stake here, and life is temporary on this end.

00:24:36.823 --> 00:24:42.023
The time that we're in our lifespan on this earth is of a limited number of

00:24:42.023 --> 00:24:44.843
years or days or whatever weeks.

00:24:45.203 --> 00:24:51.363
But God in His eternity endures forever, and what He's doing right now is good

00:24:51.363 --> 00:24:54.243
for us, even if it doesn't seem like it's good for us.

00:24:54.483 --> 00:24:58.843
And if there is some, you know, it says the curse without a cause does not come.

00:24:58.843 --> 00:25:02.603
If there is a curse in operation, which there more than likely is because Satan

00:25:02.603 --> 00:25:07.583
is using any opportunity he can to bring a judgment against us and bring calamity

00:25:07.583 --> 00:25:09.603
against us and then blame it onto God.

00:25:10.703 --> 00:25:16.903
Even in all of that confusion, in all of the devil's intentions to kill us,

00:25:17.503 --> 00:25:19.943
God still ultimately gets the last move.

00:25:20.143 --> 00:25:24.663
God is ultimately the one who says, that's enough. And so it is the love and

00:25:24.663 --> 00:25:27.823
mercy of God that endures forever, his faithfulness that endures forever.

00:25:28.063 --> 00:25:32.723
That is how Jesus got through his test, because he was looking to eternity.

00:25:32.723 --> 00:25:36.863
He was looking to the faithfulness and the goodness and the justice of God.

00:25:37.003 --> 00:25:40.503
And the only way you can get the justice of God is to forgive the people who

00:25:40.503 --> 00:25:45.223
Satan is using to torment you and who God is permitting Satan to use to torment you.

00:25:45.823 --> 00:25:52.583
In 2 Timothy 2, verse 1, it says, You, therefore, my son, be strong in the grace

00:25:52.583 --> 00:25:58.223
that is in Jesus Christ, the favor that is in Jesus Christ, the favor,

00:25:58.383 --> 00:26:00.023
the power that is in Jesus Christ.

00:26:00.283 --> 00:26:04.163
And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses,

00:26:04.463 --> 00:26:09.563
commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.

00:26:09.643 --> 00:26:16.483
And then he says this, he says, verses 3 and 4, You, therefore, must endure hardship.

00:26:16.683 --> 00:26:20.083
As a good soldier. Of Jesus Christ. Are we in a war?

00:26:20.563 --> 00:26:25.363
Oh, yeah. No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this

00:26:25.363 --> 00:26:27.403
life. Don't get too entangled, people.

00:26:27.643 --> 00:26:29.943
It's all going to pass away. If you're in the army, you're not a civilian. Yeah.

00:26:30.563 --> 00:26:35.763
That he may please him who has enlisted him as a soldier. You know,

00:26:35.923 --> 00:26:38.503
and he talks about the athletes.

00:26:39.228 --> 00:26:42.688
He's not crowned unless he competes according to the rules, and he's got to

00:26:42.688 --> 00:26:45.928
have endurance. And the farmer. The farmer has to endurance.

00:26:46.668 --> 00:26:50.088
He waits for the crops. He waits for the crops. He believes.

00:26:51.668 --> 00:26:58.688
And a lot of times, not only we're waiting, it seems like things go so long.

00:26:58.888 --> 00:27:03.088
It says in the last verse, 10, verse 10, he says, Therefore I endure all things

00:27:03.088 --> 00:27:07.268
for the elect's sake that they also may obtain salvation, which is in Christ

00:27:07.268 --> 00:27:08.468
Jesus with eternal glory.

00:27:08.468 --> 00:27:14.908
So, this is the case that Jesus endured for us, and Paul is enduring for his

00:27:14.908 --> 00:27:20.748
people, and we are enduring for those around us, our families and children, loved ones.

00:27:20.908 --> 00:27:28.568
We have to stand faithful because our endurance, our strength becomes courage and strength for them.

00:27:28.828 --> 00:27:35.588
And in verses 11 and 12 there, it says, 2 Timothy 2, This is a faithful saying,

00:27:35.748 --> 00:27:38.168
for if we died with him, we shall also live with him.

00:27:38.288 --> 00:27:41.668
If we endure, we shall also reign with him.

00:27:41.828 --> 00:27:44.688
If we deny him, he will deny us.

00:27:44.888 --> 00:27:49.628
If we are faithless, he remains faithful, and he cannot deny himself.

00:27:49.968 --> 00:27:55.628
So basically, we endure with him. We're going to reign with him.

00:27:55.768 --> 00:28:01.528
And another part of endurance, Marjorie, is that we trust him when we don't understand.

00:28:02.068 --> 00:28:05.048
There's a lot of things that come to us that we just don't understand why.

00:28:05.208 --> 00:28:10.008
We can ask why, why, why, but, you know, the best thing to do when we're tempted

00:28:10.008 --> 00:28:12.648
to ask why is just, Lord, I'm trusting.

00:28:12.828 --> 00:28:16.248
You know, interesting is we are built by God to trust Him in our spirits.

00:28:16.668 --> 00:28:21.368
In our souls, we waver and we vacillate and we go into double-mindedness if

00:28:21.368 --> 00:28:22.608
you use your mind, will, and emotions.

00:28:22.788 --> 00:28:25.828
But if you go into your spirit and His spirit is bearing witness with your spirit,

00:28:25.908 --> 00:28:28.528
you already were created by God to know that He is trustworthy.

00:28:28.528 --> 00:28:31.528
He doesn't lie. He's honorable. he's good in,

00:28:32.009 --> 00:28:35.649
that he loves us. God loves us.

00:28:35.789 --> 00:28:40.369
And this is a very hard concept for us to grasp when we're going through chastening,

00:28:40.509 --> 00:28:43.489
when we're trying to endure because we don't get it.

00:28:43.549 --> 00:28:46.089
Why, why, why? Why me, God? What did I do?

00:28:46.449 --> 00:28:50.369
So we're assuming that we did something wrong, which isn't necessarily always

00:28:50.369 --> 00:28:54.189
the case. I don't believe chastening always comes because you've done something wrong.

00:28:54.749 --> 00:29:00.969
Punishment might come that way, but chastening is a correction or a deepening

00:29:00.969 --> 00:29:04.509
of the understanding, the comprehension, the maturity level,

00:29:04.909 --> 00:29:09.029
the endurance, the faithfulness, so that you will be able to be entrusted with

00:29:09.029 --> 00:29:13.389
even more things from the Lord in His kingdom to do for Him.

00:29:13.789 --> 00:29:17.189
Yeah, you mentioned about the farmer later, earlier here.

00:29:18.189 --> 00:29:23.709
1 Peter chapter of James, rather, 5, 7. Therefore, be patient,

00:29:23.889 --> 00:29:26.069
brethren, until the coming of the Lord.

00:29:26.249 --> 00:29:28.729
See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth,

00:29:28.869 --> 00:29:34.629
waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain. You also be patient.

00:29:35.369 --> 00:29:38.069
Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand.

00:29:38.409 --> 00:29:41.629
Do not grumble against one another, brethren, lest you be condemned.

00:29:42.189 --> 00:29:46.249
Behold, the judge is standing at the door. My brethren, take the prophets.

00:29:46.389 --> 00:29:52.129
Verse 10 there of James 5. My brethren, take the prophets who spoke in the name

00:29:52.129 --> 00:29:55.269
of the Lord as an example of suffering and patience.

00:29:55.669 --> 00:29:59.189
And indeed, we count them blessed who endure.

00:29:59.769 --> 00:30:02.849
You have heard of the patience, the perseverance.

00:30:03.589 --> 00:30:07.469
Patience King James says, New King James, perseverance of Job.

00:30:07.729 --> 00:30:15.149
And seeing the end intended by the Lord, that the Lord is very compassionate and merciful.

00:30:15.149 --> 00:30:20.069
And being confident of this very thing, Paul writes to the Philippians,

00:30:20.289 --> 00:30:25.569
that he who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.

00:30:25.589 --> 00:30:31.229
So our salvation is up to him, and we are in his hands.

00:30:31.429 --> 00:30:35.829
He has not forsaken. He has not forgotten us. So be encouraged in the Lord,

00:30:35.989 --> 00:30:38.829
and we thank God for his faithfulness.

00:30:39.049 --> 00:30:42.889
Yeah, and let me just, as we close here today.

00:30:44.846 --> 00:30:49.546
Galatians chapter 6, verses 9 and 10.

00:30:49.846 --> 00:30:58.046
And let us not go weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.

00:30:58.226 --> 00:31:02.506
Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those

00:31:02.506 --> 00:31:05.406
who are of the household of faith. He says, don't grow weary,

00:31:05.566 --> 00:31:08.926
don't give up, don't let it all go.

00:31:09.846 --> 00:31:14.966
Just keep going while doing good. because in due season, at the right time,

00:31:15.466 --> 00:31:18.426
there's a harvest coming. There's a reward. There's a reward coming.

00:31:18.766 --> 00:31:22.146
There's a reward for endurance. Amen.

00:31:22.646 --> 00:31:25.146
So, Father God, we thank you for giving us grace and strength.

00:31:25.366 --> 00:31:30.266
It is your example on the cross that you endured the shame, despised the shame,

00:31:30.386 --> 00:31:31.546
didn't come down from the cross.

00:31:31.766 --> 00:31:37.386
For the sake of us, Lord, and thank you for giving us that same spirit of encouragement,

00:31:37.886 --> 00:31:40.766
faithfulness, endurance, that you are the one working in us,

00:31:40.766 --> 00:31:42.166
both the will and do of your good pleasure.

00:31:42.306 --> 00:31:47.966
And we will not grow weary in well-doing, for in due season we will reap if we do not faint.

00:31:49.226 --> 00:31:53.746
Lord, I just pray for those that are listening today, some that maybe are going

00:31:53.746 --> 00:31:57.046
through some of the deepest trials of their life. Amen.

00:31:57.866 --> 00:32:04.386
Just agony and confusion. And Lord, we pray for encouraging and your encouragement

00:32:04.386 --> 00:32:08.466
that somehow this, what we share today will encourage them, will lift them up.

00:32:08.466 --> 00:32:11.786
And there are some that are just in a place of confusion say

00:32:11.786 --> 00:32:14.626
what is going on some that maybe just have

00:32:14.626 --> 00:32:21.226
had such a sudden attack of ill health or something else Lord that bad news

00:32:21.226 --> 00:32:26.646
that's come their way we pray that they will just not freak out not lose heart

00:32:26.646 --> 00:32:32.366
not be shaken by this but they will just say Lord I'm trusting you,

00:32:32.937 --> 00:32:37.377
Give me wisdom. Show me what I need to do here in the midst of all this.

00:32:38.017 --> 00:32:42.537
Thank you, Father, for ministering your love, your truth, your mercy,

00:32:42.677 --> 00:32:44.657
your grace, your encouragement to everyone.

00:32:45.037 --> 00:32:49.177
People that are just kind of ready to give up or weary, tired,

00:32:49.357 --> 00:32:54.877
frustrated, Lord, let them just get with it again.

00:32:55.277 --> 00:33:01.377
Amen. Just begin to pick themselves up by your grace and move forward with you.

00:33:01.537 --> 00:33:06.377
In Jesus' name. Amen. And I want to pray for someone who I see right now has,

00:33:06.537 --> 00:33:11.037
there's pain between your eyes. Your eyes are in pain.

00:33:11.317 --> 00:33:16.177
There's a lot of pain for whatever reason, I don't know, physical pain in your eyes.

00:33:16.297 --> 00:33:21.217
And it's kind of coming together right in the bridge of your nose where your

00:33:21.217 --> 00:33:23.317
eyes, there's a pain there.

00:33:23.397 --> 00:33:27.057
There's something going on there with the pain in the eyes and the bridge of the nose.

00:33:27.597 --> 00:33:31.837
And so I pray right now, Father, for this one or one many, that this affliction,

00:33:31.957 --> 00:33:33.237
I come against that affliction.

00:33:33.457 --> 00:33:37.517
It's a fiery sword against that with the blood of Jesus Christ.

00:33:37.677 --> 00:33:39.897
I command the enemy the demonic judgment.

00:33:40.297 --> 00:33:47.237
Satan is put against your vision. I command you, enemy, take those burning firebrands

00:33:47.237 --> 00:33:49.517
out of their eyes in the name of Jesus Christ.

00:33:49.517 --> 00:33:52.777
I come against you, separate you from this person's vision,

00:33:52.917 --> 00:33:57.197
their eyes by the blood of Jesus Christ and the sword of his word And Father,

00:33:57.317 --> 00:34:01.757
we release them into a fullness of miraculous healing, that they won't have

00:34:01.757 --> 00:34:06.557
to go any further in investigating what's going on, but that you'll simply just

00:34:06.557 --> 00:34:09.837
lift this burden and this fear off of them now.

00:34:10.197 --> 00:34:15.537
Father God, clear up their vision, remove the pain in Jesus' name. Amen. Amen.

00:34:16.537 --> 00:34:20.737
So I have a book that might be of interest to people who want to understand

00:34:20.737 --> 00:34:24.437
the justice and the chastening of God. As a matter of fact, it is called A Case

00:34:24.437 --> 00:34:28.777
for Justice, and you can get it on our website, liferecovery.com.

00:34:28.877 --> 00:34:31.577
It talks about chasing. It talks about testing.

00:34:31.757 --> 00:34:33.257
It talks about Job.

00:34:33.457 --> 00:34:38.417
It talks about the various members of the Bible, well-known characters who were

00:34:38.417 --> 00:34:41.297
tempted in trials, chastened.

00:34:41.797 --> 00:34:46.017
And so, again, the book is A Case for Justice.

00:34:46.157 --> 00:34:52.017
There's a lot of answers in that book. And the main issue we discuss is if God is so good, then why?

00:34:52.177 --> 00:34:54.277
So, again, liferecovery.com.

00:34:54.717 --> 00:34:57.137
We enjoy being with you, and thank you for joining us.

00:34:59.297 --> 00:35:01.377
I have an emergency. What is your location?

00:35:02.160 --> 00:35:19.600
Music.

00:35:05.717 --> 00:35:07.337
3, 2, 1...

00:35:22.177 --> 00:35:22.217
...
